Results from the first day’s games at the DC Wetskins:
Renegades split. The first game was a loss to NOVA, 20 to 5. Pittsburgh scores the first three goals then down hill from there. Second game, a win against one of the four of the Wetskins teams, 10 to 8 in a close game. Up by 5 goals at mid game. Wetskins came back but Pittsburgh holds on.
Before day two.
The Renegades lost its fourth game to Rockville in DC. Closer battle than the score as the first quarter ended with an even point cout. Then Rockville pulled ahead. Renegades came back with three unanswered goals, but the final was Rockville, 14 to Renegades, 8.
Rockville moved on to the Championship Game.
The Lady Referee took the worst of the battle. No red cards though. Both sides were confused. Bittersweet depending on if you wanted to get home early or later.
BIG THANKS to the players from Cleveland and the Hawks and Miland for filling out the squad.
HIGHLAND PARK (KDKA) — The competition on the water was intense this weekend at Highland Park Pool when Pennsylvania colleges descended on Pittsburgh for the W&J Water Polo Invitational.
Heading to the Highland Park Pool were Gannon University, Penn State Behrend, Washington & Jefferson, and Mercyhurst.
This season marked the 20th anniversary for the W&J Men’s Water Polo squad and they, unfortunately, opened it with losses to PSU Behrend and Mercyhurst.
When the colleges weren’t battling it out in the pool, the public was allowed to try their hand at water polo.
Citiparks kept the pool open an extra week just for the competition.
On a nice Saturday afternoon, the Renegades had two games on the CMU campus. First it was a game with Pitt. Then another with Case Western.
Fun to see so many of the players bring along their children to watch and cheer.
Next week, a squad of players from Pittsburgh goes to Cleveland for the Lake Erie Classic for two days of water polo play with a masters tournament there.
